One of my favorite blooms of the moon is Lunaria, a pink-purple flower whose seed pods glisten with a lunar silver deep into fall and winter.
Though her tall plant bows gently in the wind and her presence casts a soft, gentle shadow, Lunaria has a way of getting straight to the point. Also known as "Honesty", this allie's name fits as more than a poetic expression. It's also a practical description of her medicine.
Lunaria works on the places where we’ve learned to edit ourselves or the parts we’ve filtered in an effort to belong.
Why Do We Hide Parts of Ourselves?
For many of us, belonging came with conditions early on. Sensitive people, especially, might have used their ability to read others as a helpful tool for categorizing which parts of themselves gained approval and which parts caused discomfort in others. In response, shadows got cast over different expressions of ourselves in hopes of fitting in. Self-honesty started to feel risky, even dangerous (because at some point in our history, it was).
When we begin working with Honesty as an ally, we're first invited to acknowledge where we've gotten so good at hiding the truth, that we've begun obscuring it from ourselves.
There’s a profound difference between being honest about ourselves and being honest with ourselves. The latter is often harder. It requires we implement the self-discipline and self-reflection to notice when a long-held identity begins to feel like a trap or when we're staying in roles that no longer fit the ways we've grown.
Lunaria brings attention to these subtle misalignments so that we can free ourselves from their restraints.
Sensitive People & Shapeshifting
For the highly sensitive, this editing often manifests as a reflexive shapeshifting. When our nervous system acts like a high-definition receiver for the moods and expectations of those around us, it feels safer to mold ourselves into whatever version of us keeps the room steady. We become a social chameleon, expertly adjusting our edges to fill the gaps in someone else’s comfort. It’s a brilliant survival strategy, but it’s also exhausting, leaving us to feel like a blurred reflection of everyone else, while our own true shape remains hidden, even from ourself.
Lunaria helps us gentle unwind our conditioning so that we can remember who we were before we decided to shape-shift ourselves.
As her energy clarifies our lives, things become harder to ignore. We may feel less willing to maintain relationships or narratives that require us to stay hidden. While honesty can be uncomfortable, it brings an undeniable sense of relief to our spirits.
How Returning to Coherence Creates Magnetism
Something quite magical happens in that spacious freedom. When we stop negotiating with our own truth, our magnetism naturally returns. We move closer to a state of coherence because we're re-aligned with our truth.
People, especially the sensitive among us, can sense that signal. They recognize it immediately. Lunaria teaches us that belonging emerges when we belong to ourselves first.
The physical form of the Lunaria plant mirrors this spiritual lesson. Her seed pods are thin, silvery, and translucent. They catch the light in a way that feels lunar and reflective.
There is nothing "armored" about her. She doesn't hide what she is; she lets the light pass through. This is where true abundance lives. Not in material accumulation, but in radical self-honesty.
Protection Through Resonance
When we stop performing, we become available to the right relationships. This doesn’t mean we are suddenly free from being misunderstood, but it does mean we are protected from being claimed by people who cannot actually see us. Lunaria helps us recognize where past connections might've been reliant on us remaining in distortion. From this place of awareness, we can understand how resonance feels in our body.
True belonging feels like an exhale. It's the ability to stand where you are without adjusting your shape or justifying your perspective. You're steady, because you're standing in your integrity. From that integrity grows a steadier sense of self and an effortless sense drawing life-giving people, situations, and dynamics to you.
