Plant Allies for Ancestral Healing

This time of year opens a subtle doorway in the energetic space between dimensions. The veil thins between world and timelines. Past, present, and future begin to speak to one another more freely, offering us a rare and supported opportunity to heal both backwards and forwards along our lineage.

When we engage in ancestral or lineage healing, we are tending to what has been, but we're also we are shaping what is yet to come and laying the foundation for future generations. Time, at the energetic level is circular, spiralic, alive and moldable like clay in our hands.

Plants are extraordinary allies in this work for two profound reasons.

First, they are our oldest and wisest ancestors. Long before humans walked the Earth, plants were already here, learning, adapting, remembering. Their intelligence is ancient and deeply attuned to cycles of death, decay, and rebirth.

Second, plants quite literally emerge from the fertile soil our loved ones return to. When we are recycled into the Earth, the wisdom held within our bodies must be recycled too. Bone, blood, memory, emotion, experience all become nourishment. Energy is never created or destroyed, only transformed. The Earth remembers us, and the plants drink deeply from that remembrance.

When we work with plants for lineage healing, we are communing with beings who carry the imprints of countless lives, stories, and eras within their roots.

Below are some of my favorite plant allies to work with for ancestral healing.

Bloodroot

Bloodroot connects you to your roots, reminds you of your innate value, and invokes the patience required to midwife your new ways into reality.

This ally can also help you cut through the binding of any karmic patterns on the personal, ancestral, and cultural levels. It imbues patience and protection on your spiritual journey, offering an uninhibited connection to your well-healed ancestors and the information of the Earth. With its assistance, you can transform any heaviness or darkness into light. Bloodroot Flower Essence

Mariposa Lily

The essence of Mariposa Lily embodies the energy of the divine mother. It helps us to see the origin of our wounding with grace, so that, like an oyster, we can alchemize the irritants into a beautiful pearl.

Its energy brings an almost transcendent quality by connecting us to the love in all things. Through this love, we have the strength to re-mother the parts of ourselves that didn't receive what they needed and, in effect, experience the freedom of self-acceptance. Mariposa Lily Flower Essence

Marigold

The essence of Marigold is an incredibly powerful ally for connecting to the power of our ancestral and spiritual lines. She holds a candle to the darkness, so that we can heal shadows, like shame and confusion, which can only exist when they are not witnessed.

Marigold also connects us to the wise intelligence of the feminine and her cycles, ushering us through times of change with grace. Like the Great Mother, she envelops us in her warm and protective light, allowing us to expand from our previously contracted states and lean into the flow that is available to us when we trust in our own becoming. Rosemary

The essence of Rosemary brings us into the energy of the ancient grandmother. It offers us an energetic resting place where we can revitalize our life force. It purifies our fields, helping us to reconnect to what is nourishing and nurturing within us. Rosemary Flower Essence

Spiderwort

The essence of Spiderwort stops cycles, assisting us in learning what we need to learn from karmic situations so that we can move forward. It helps us cultivate healthy discernment, so that we can differentiate being drawn to a situation by our wounding or being drawn by our internal compass. Working with these plants, whether through flower essences, ritual, meditation, or time spent in quiet observation, invites us into a conversation that transcends time where healing flows across many lifetimes.

When we heal, we are never healing just for ourselves. We are healing for those who came before us, and for those who will come after carried forward by roots deeper than we can see.
