When I create a flower essence, I’m not just working with the plants; I’m also working with the cosmos. The stars, the moon, and the positioning of the planets weave their subtle influences into the medicine, shaping how it interacts with our bodies and our energy fields.
You might not think of the timing of an essence (the day, the hour, the light) as part of the recipe. But to me, it’s one of the most important ingredients.
The Celestial Signature in Every Bottle
I’ve noticed over and over that the stars or moon phase you make an essence under make a profound difference in the character of the remedy. Each planetary alignment has its own energetic tone in the same way each flower does. When these two layers harmonize, the resulting essence carries a kind of cosmic coherence.
It’s similar to how a song sounds fuller when two notes resonate in perfect harmony. The plant holds one note, the heavens hold another, and together they create a vibrational chord that our bodies respond to.
Working Intentionally with Cosmic Energy
Sometimes I plan an essence around a particular cosmic event. For example, during a beautiful Jupiter–Venus conjunction in Taurus, I felt called to make a strawberry blossom essence. Venus and Jupiter are both planets of abundance, sweetness, and joy, and Taurus is ruled by Venus, the archetype of beauty, sensuality, and grounded pleasure. The alignment was an invitation to anchor those frequencies into form.
The resulting essence was supercharged – radiantly heart-opening, generous, and lush in its energy.
Moments like that remind me how alive and responsive this process is. The plants and stars are sentient beings. When they’re brought together in right timing, their medicine weaves together creating a third energy that is completely new.
Following Intuition and Reflection
Other times when I go to make a flower essence, I approach the process with no plan at all. I listen to the intuitive call to create an essence on a certain day. Then later, when I look up what was happening in the sky, it quite often clicks into place.
Maybe the moon was in Cancer, a sign of emotional nourishment and deep feeling, and I’d just made a water-loving flower essence for inner soothing. Or maybe the sun had entered Leo, and I’d been working with a plant that helps awaken self-expression and confidence. The alignment always reveals itself, and it’s often perfect.
This dance between intuition and cosmic awareness is part of what makes essence-making such a living art. It’s never purely intellectual. It’s relational, responsive, and deeply attuned to the subtle rhythms of life.
Recording the Sky as Part of the Medicine
Whenever I bottle a mother essence, I always write down the sun and moon signs it's made under on the label to record of the celestial imprint that shaped it. To me, this is part of the plant’s story. Just as a flower blooms in a specific landscape, under a specific light, the essence carries the memory of that moment in time.
Working with the cosmos reminds us that we’re not separate from the larger movements of the universe. The same forces that guide the tides and seasons are also moving through our own inner landscapes.
When we consciously collaborate with those forces, we open the door to a deeper kind of medicine. The essences become not only plant allies, but cosmic allies, bridging heaven and earth through a drop of water infused with light.
This sensitivity is magic of flower essence making. Every bottle carries the soul of the flower and the song of the stars.
